Watercolour enhanced with gouache on paper. 51.50 x 36 cm (viewing area).
Inscribed in the lower right-hand corner: ‘To Mademoiselle Jeannine Dumas, a memento from her friend G. Clairin’.
Clairin (1843–1919) was a close friend of the Dumas family and is credited with one of the very last portraits of Alexandre Dumas the Younger, painted in 1895, the year of his death.
