Approximately 40 pages, in-12 and in-8 formats. - 21 August 1893: ‘You are the biggest idiot the earth has ever borne, you old charlatan who has dragged us into the filthiest hole in the world—for truly, a hole is a hole, the very worst of all holes…’ – 14 August 1894: ‘When you’ve ruined your life, as I have, when you’ve suffered—and I’m quite happy to admit that willingly—but sadly thought it was all over, and when, by some miracle, you’ve rediscovered an indescribable happiness and a heart like no other, the day that goes away, one has no choice but to leave as well…’ – 21 August 1894: ‘ You can well imagine that if I go to Marly, it is not for my own pleasure, and that if Papa does not wish to see us there, I shall quite simply return to Paris – 11 June 1895: “Ask tactfully whether I am expected at Marly on my return from Moulins, etc. etc. I imagine they’ll let me come to Marly, thinking, ‘Once she’s there, she’ll stay there’” – 13 June 1895: ‘I really do think you’ve lost what little common sense you had left, and it’s clear from reading your letter that on Tuesday evening you must have been on the receiving end of a bit of a paternal tirade that was nothing short of scathing… Jeannine has no intention of going to Marly as she hasn’t been invited. ” – undated [1895]: “I found Papa in bed, suffering terribly from a headache. He was being given morphine injections… I’m going back there tomorrow… Madame is coming to Paris.” – 30 August 1896. Regarding a revival of *Charles VII*: “Jeannine is fuming about this revival and tells me that it wasn’t you who organised it! On the contrary, you wrote to me saying that it was entirely down to you! I just don’t understand anymore!!! – 7 July 1898: “You must have been very angry indeed to write to me the hurtful and inaccurate things you’ve written. It would be better to discuss this in person… ” - Émile to Colette. 6 July 1896. Draft letter. 4 pp. in-8.
