Description
(Ferdinand BAC). Collection of documents relating to Pierre Gennari. - Signed autograph letter. Compiègne, 20 June 1946. 2 pp. in-8 on paper illustrated with a drawing by Ferdinand Bac depicting the dining room at Les Colombières. ‘Shallow people understand only what is shallow. An academic – though one who scoffs at pedantry – the other day once again classified me not amongst the survivors of the Second Empire, but of Voltairean devilry… The immobility of my wretched remains is gaining several stripes in its inertia (I speak of stripes because I have just seen another year pass by. It crept by, red and the colour of duck droppings… The postman delivers the mail. What a wealth of observation, first in the handwriting, then in the content…’ - ‘What is a “romantic woman”? 3 pp. in-8. A text largely concerning Émilienne Dejeux. ‘When one does not have eighty years of romantic observation in one’s eyes, one is excused for confusing the matter, for there are twenty kinds of women whom we call by that name… There are, of course, appearances. They justify all the interpretations of those who hold a vague, general and approximate image of this state, which is certainly far removed from the bourgeois and measured order. Those referred to in the table-talk at the Faisanderie fit this description perfectly…’ - ‘A Few Reflections’ dedicated to Pierre Gennari by Ferdinand Bac, Compiègne, 1 January 1951 (On the Sistine Chapel frescoes and those of the Vatican). 2 pp., in-8 – ‘Enchanted Gardens’. 30 June 1947. Signed autograph poem, 2 pp. in-4 written in red ink on letterhead from the Gennari residence in Nogent-sur-Marne. ‘This romancero is composed / For thirty-six gardens / Some have been built / A few even laid out / by my own hands / Others more daring, / – What trouble I shall cause you! – / His vain dream / Of a simple writer…’ - ‘The Birth of a Romanticism in 1948. A note, written in passing, on the stages of this singular adventure’. 10 July 1948. Typescript, 3 pp. in-4. On his meeting with Émilienne Dejeux. - Comparative values of autographs in 1948–49. 1 p., in-8: F. Bac ‘des Colombières’ 100 F / Roger de Beauvoir 50 f. /… Félicien Champsaur 75 f / Francis de Croisset 50 f / Alexandre Dumas 80 f.” - 2 photographs of Ferdinand Bac taken at the Faisanderie in Nogent-sur-Marne: one with Pierre Gennari (2 prints), the second with Michel Benoit from Toulouse, ‘survivor of the Rimont Ariège disaster on 21 August 1944. ’ 80 x 50 mm and 50 x 58 mm.
