Description
VAN CLEEF & ARPELS. Brooch in 18k (750 thousandths) yellow and white gold depicting a flock of birds, the bodies set with emerald cabochons, the heads paved with diamonds, the eyes adorned with ruby cabochons. They are joined by a branch adorned with leaves, some highlighted with a line of small diamonds. Signed and numbered. Gross weight: 22.5 g (tiny chips) At the end of the Second World War, Van Cleef & Arpels launched a line of bird clips and brooches known as "Les Inséparables" or "Lovebirds". Sometimes a couple, sometimes a family, these birds symbolise love, attachment and peace. This lot has been kept outside the study in a bank safe and is sold by designation.
