Loiseau-Rousseau’ on the right 51 x 58 x 28 cm Provenance: Galerie de Crécy, Crécy-la-Chapelle; Acquired from the gallery by the current owner; Private collection, Paris Paul Loiseau-Rousseau initially appears to have intended to specialise in etching. Unable to complete his academic studies at the École des Beaux-Arts for health reasons, he attended evening classes taught by the sculptor Théophile Barrau. He travelled to Africa in 1892 thanks to a scholarship and the success of his entries at the Salon. The headdress adorned with an eagle depicted here may have been inspired by a motif he saw during that journey. Paul LOISEAU-ROUSSEAU (Paris, 1861–1927) 51 x 58 x 28 cm
