As indicated in the archives of the Cité de l’Architecture, the model of the so-called Nuremberg Virgin, regarded as a masterpiece of late German Gothic sculpture and formerly attributed to Veit Stoss, was transported to Paris in 1883 to be cast by the casting workshop of the Musée de Sculpture Comparée. The work, entitled ‘The Praying Woman’, appeared in the foundry’s sales catalogue for the first time around 1886.
