VAT at the reduced rate of 5.5 per cent applies to the hammer price and the sales commission. This VAT is recoverable for French business buyers. It is refundable to a buyer from outside the EU upon presentation of proof of export outside the EU, or to a business buyer who can provide an intra-Community VAT number and a document proving delivery within the Member State.
