Octave TASSAERT (Paris, 1800 – 1874) The Old Men’s Calendar Oil on canvas (Original canvas) Monogrammed ‘O. T.’ in the lower right-hand corner Bears an inscription ‘O. Tassaert// Le Calendrier des Vieillards’ in ink on the stretcher on the reverse 24 x 19 cm *The Old Men’s Calendar* is taken from a collection of various risqué tales and short stories set to verse by Jean de La Fontaine, published in three parts by Claude Barbin in 1665, 1666 and 1671. La Fontaine drew his inspiration from 15th- and 16th-century Italian works, including Boccaccio’s *Decameron*. The hammer price includes VAT. VAT at the reduced rate of 5.5% applies to the hammer price and the sales commission. This VAT is recoverable for French business buyers. It is refundable to buyers outside the EU upon presentation of proof of export outside the EU, or to business buyers who can provide an intra-Community VAT number and a document proving delivery within a Member State.   The hammer price will be inclusive of VAT. VAT at 5.5% will be added to the hammer price and the buyer’s premium. Upon request, this VAT may be refunded to the purchaser upon presentation of written proof of export outside the EU, or to an EU purchaser who submits their intra-Community VAT number and proof of shipment of their purchase to their home address within the EU.
