Small seated replica, viewed from behind Oil on panel Signed, inscribed and dated ‘JJHenner / souvenir à mP.Sar(…)s /1898’ in the lower left-hand corner Unframed 41.5 x 28.5 cm Provenance: Private collection, Paris This work reproduces a composition for which the artist was known during the 1880s and 1890s. The catalogue raisonné lists nearly twelve replicas of *La Fontaine* in various formats, all depicting a nude seated with her back to the viewer (Isabelle de Lannoy, *Catalogue raisonné Jean Jacques Henner*, Volume I, Paris, 2008, nos.
