A 2-page autograph signed letter dated 29 October 1743. Addressee: Claude-Henry Feydeau de Marville (1740–1747) **. Dimensions: 17 x 21.6 cm. The writer expresses his regret following an invitation that was declined: ‘So you do not wish to come and see (…) yet I would be delighted to welcome you here; and it seems to me that you had promised to come (…). You may make whatever use you see fit of this letter; I am sending it to you simply to ease my conscience (…). A fine copy.

An unsigned, handwritten letter of two pages, written at Etiolles and dated 27 July 1775. Dimensions: 18 x 22.5 cm. A collection of poems, including ‘galanteries’: ‘you will see that the oriental style, or that of the Holy Scriptures, is at least as passionate as my own. Moreover, there is a fine line between sensuality and a libertine tone’. A fine example.

A one-page autograph signed letter dated 6 Brumaire, Year II [27 October 1793], addressed to Citizen Noël**, ‘former ambassador, Inspector-General of Education’. Dimensions: 11 x 17.5 cm.
Following a stirring preamble: ‘My dear colleague in the arts of Apollo. I eagerly seize this opportunity (…) to tell you how much we ought to congratulate the public education system for having, as one of its leaders, a man who so skilfully combines philosophy and literature’; he recommends enrolling one of his colleagues (Citizen Olivier) in Marseille ‘(…) at one of the leading lycées where a professorship is to be established’. ‘I am most grateful to Your Excellency for your ???... for sharing the news she has received, which I shall certainly report to His Majesty [Louis XV]. She can only be delighted to learn that the Emperor [Karl VII, formerly Karl Albrecht, King of Bavaria. Crowned Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1742] is pleased with … de Broglie.
