[BRITTANY] [Chouannerie] Brest Coastal Army, 6th Division, General Valletaux’s Brigade. Port-Brieuc, J. M. Beauchemin, [1794/1795]: Proclamation issued by the ‘Rennes headquarters’. Signed L. Hoche. Certified true copy by the Chief of the General Staff for Internal Affairs, Chérin (…) signed Valletaux. Proclamation in which Lazare Hoche announces that ‘Charrette and the principal leaders of his army, known as the Vandéens, Caumartin, on behalf of the party known as the Chouans, have just signed a document in which they declare to the representatives of the French people that their intention is henceforth to live under the laws of the one and indivisible Republic (…)”, whilst acknowledging nonetheless that “(…) there are professional bandits who know no party other than that of murder and pillage, who commit unspeakable crimes and seem to be plotting new ones (…)”.
