Auguste MARIETTE (1821–1881), Egyptologist. Along with Jean-François Champollion, he is one of the two founding fathers of Egyptology. A signed autograph letter sent from Boulogne on 9 November 1847, addressed to François Morand (1808–1881), historian and archivist of the town of Boulogne-sur-Mer. Mariette apologises to François Morand for not having been able, for practical reasons (which he details), to send him the draft of his manuscript, which will be published under the title ‘Letter to Mr Bouillet’. 3 pages, in-12 format: A fine copy.
