Description
LEVY Michel (1821–1875), publisher.
A signed autograph letter (on letterhead reading ‘Michel Lévy frères, booksellers and publishers (…)’) dated 7 October 1867 in Paris, addressed to the writer and journalist Honoré Bonhomme (1811–1890). ‘(…) No recommendation could be more powerful in my eyes than that of Mr Cuvillier-Fleury, through whom you were introduced to me; but, unfortunately, very pressing commercial considerations—which do not appear likely to disappear in the near future—prevent me from honouring it on this occasion. Having given the matter careful consideration, it is impossible for me to make any commitment to you regarding the publication of your work on the ‘Duke of Penthièvre’, and I would not wish, by further delaying matters, to dissuade you from dealing with one of my colleagues. Please accept, Sir, my warmest regards. Michel Lévy’ *. 1 page, in-8; dim: 13.2 x 21.2 cm; fine copy.
*The book in question was published by Firmin Didot frères, fils et Cie (Paris) in 1869
