Description
[CORSICA] Charles-Eugène Gabriel de LA CROIX De CASTRIES (1727–1801), Marshal of France, Governor of Montpellier and Sète, Governor of Flanders and Hainaut, Secretary of State for the Navy (1780–1787). Signed letter dated 18 July 1782 (1 folio page); paper bearing the crowned CR monogram. ‘I have received, gentlemen, together with the letter you wrote to me on the 23rd of last month, the report confirming the seizure of a vessel near the roadstead of Capo di Fino (…)’. Castrie, who was then Secretary of State for the Navy, requests further information on the vessel in question and intends to lodge a complaint “regarding this incident, which is of such importance to safety and navigation in the waters off the island of Corsica that we must demand the redress to which we are entitled (…)’.
