Autograph signed letter dated 23 October 1855 (no place), addressed to Philippe Le Bas*: ‘My dear colleague, Mr Leclerc tells me that your library collects theses. Does it have Mr Baret’s thesis on Amadei (July 1853)?** If so, I would be grateful if you could let me know the date and time when I might consult it. Please accept my warm regards and, in advance, my thanks. J. Michelet”. 1 page, in-8 (dim: 13.5 x 20.5 cm); fine copy.
*[(1794–1860), Hellenist, epigraphist, archaeologist and translator. Lecturer at the École normale supérieure, head of the Sorbonne library, member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, and President of the Institut de France, he is best known as the tutor to Napoleon III.
