He served with the Army of the West from late 1793 to 1795, then with the Army of the Interior from 1795 to 1796. Promoted to captain in the 18th Line Regiment on 18 December 1796, he served with the Army of Italy until 1798. He was slightly wounded at Tarvis on 23 March 1797. Assigned to the Army of Helvetia, he served as Brune’s aide-de-camp from 15 March 1798. Transferred to the Army of Helvetia between 1802 and 1803, he was made an Officer of the Legion of Honour on 14 June 1804. Promoted to brigadier-general on 30 May 1809, he served in the Army of Italy. He was made a Baron of the Empire on 15 August 1809. He died at the Champ d’Honneur on 31 May 1813 Autograph signed letter (on letterhead ‘Army of the West / Y. Pastol, Brigade Commander, Aide-de-Camp to General Brune’), dated 27 Pluviôse, Year 8, in Vannes, addressed to the Municipal Administration of the canton of Guingamp. 2 sheets, in-12 format (dimensions: 11.7 x 18.4 cm). ‘Citizens, the concerns you have harboured for your regions, which I shared with you, will be allayed by the wise and vigorous measures being taken by my General; in a very short time, the Chouans of the departments of Morbihan, Côtes-du-Nord and Finistère, by submitting to the laws of the Republic, will lay down their arms. Perhaps by the time you receive this letter, you will have seen satisfactory proof of this in your town. I am greatly flattered, Citizens, by the recognition you give to my devotion to my country. Its misfortunes make it all the more dear to me, and I shall be only too happy if I can help to put an end to them. Republican greetings. Pastol’. Fine copy. Appraisal carried out by Pascal GUILLEBAUD. Lot from a voluntary sale.
