Description
[1988 ELECTIONS] Poster – ‘No to the Bla Bla Bla generation, yes to a France of courage’. The right was supposed to embody modernity and enterprising youth (and therefore those not reliant on state support). Publisher unknown, 1988. Created by the French political party RPR (Rassemblement Pour la République). To counter and mock the poster of the future candidate François Mitterrand. For the record: Mitterrand wished to stand for a second term as President of the Republic in 1988. However, he announced his candidacy late, leaving room for doubt, playing hard to get, and keeping a fallback option to make way for another candidate from his camp should the tide turn. He therefore asked the advertising executive Jacques Séguéla To create a neutral poster for him, on which he himself would not be visible, and which could be used for someone else. The shrewd advertiser came up with the visual concept: ‘Génération Mitterrand’, and featured his own daughter in the photograph. This poster has remained famous. This poster uses the same typeface as Séguéla’s (for ‘Génération Pantouflards’). It has not been mounted, so there are no holes. Photomechanical printing: offset, in colour. Dimensions: 40 x 60 cm Appraisal carried out by Pascal GUILLEBAUD. Lot from a voluntary sale.
