MARIN MARIE (known as ‘Marin de SAINT-FRONT’) (1901–1987), based on Mers-el-Kebir, 3 July 1940, the destruction of part of the French fleet by the British. Colour lithograph signed on the plate in the bottom right-hand corner, dated and localised in the bottom left-hand corner. It is countersigned by the artist in the bottom left-hand corner in pencil and bears the inscription ‘original print 1940, reproduced in W. Churchill’s memoir, 1948 “Life”, American edition’. 40.5 x 70.5 cm. Damage, tears.
