This text is devoted to the life of the Prophet Muhammad and the prophetic eulogy, probably intended for liturgical use by members of the Isâwiyya brotherhood, whose founder Muhammad ibn 'Isâ - closely associated with the city of Meknes - is mentioned in the opening medallion under his epithet al-Sheikh al-Kâmil. The watermarked paper manufactured in France - evidence that European paper was imported into North African copy shops at the end of the 19th century - is a precious material dating clue, confirming the date of the colophon.
