The snake charmer
Iran, 18th-19th century
Opaque pigments and gold on paper mounted on an album page. In a rocky landscape, a young man in a yellow turban adorned with feathers, wearing a dark robe, holds a white snake; in the background, a second figure in a white turban observes the scene from the top of a rock. Framed in red and gold fillets, with double margins stenciled with floral scrolls and gilding.
