Description
The snake charmer Iran, 18th-19th century Opaque pigments and gold on paper mounted on an album page. In a rocky landscape, a young man in a yellow turban adorned with feathers, wearing a dark robe, holds a white snake; in the background, a second figure in a white turban observes the scene from the top of a rock. Framed in red and gold fillets, with double margins stenciled with floral scrolls and gilding. Page 32 x 20 cm (12.6 x 7.9 in.); Painting 14.5 x 9.5 cm (5.7 x 3.7 in.) Provenance : Former Isgouhi A. Sandalian collection (1918-2009), no. 13158 CLSS and no. 502 A.S.; then by inheritance (inventoried under no. 12).
