Description
Suzani "nim-suzani" ? Central Asia, Uzbekistan, Nourata, circa 1850. Silk embroidery on six layers of undyed cotton, composed of various flowering groves embellished with pomegranates, birds or ewers. The border is decorated with a wide band of stylised flowers, mainly red and pink. Size: 220 x 150 cm (86.6 x 59.1 in.) For a similar example, see Museum für Islamische Kunst, inv. n° I. 7215 and Cleveland Museum, Suzani: Divan Cover, 1700s, Uzbekistan, Bukhara. INV. n° 1940.598 dated circa 1700.
