Iznik, Ottoman Empire, circa 1600-1615.
Ceramic with painted decoration under a transparent glaze. On a white background, a floral composition with a large central tulip framed by serrated leaves in turquoise blue, cobalt blue flower buds with tomato red hearts, green saz leaves and undulating stems - a vocabulary characteristic of Iznik production at its peak. Wood frame.
Size: 24.5 x 24.5 cm (9.6 x 9.6 in.) tile only.
Provenance :
Former collection of Gaston Privat de Fressenel (1881-1924), senior French official in Egypt and renowned collector, based at the Villa Privat-Gezireh in Cairo, then by descent; collection repatriated to France in 1924.
