Ⓛ Guide to the Hajj prayers and pilgrimage Ottoman Empire or India, dated 1319 H. / 1901 Arabic manuscript scroll on paper, consisting of four leaves, calligraphed in naskh in ink; the text, introduced by the basmala, presents - in several sections - prayers illustrated by the stages of the pilgrimage - the Kaa'ba, the Black Stone, the Maqam Ibrahim, the well of Zamzam, Mount 'Arafat and other holy places; the last six lines, copied in diwani, bear the date. The spine is titled in Arabic. Condition: wear, slight creases, small stains, small edge chips, some restorations. 277.6 x 15.6 cm (109.3 x 6.1 in.); stand 28 cm (11 in.) Provenance : Former collection of Professor Johannes Marinus Simon Baljon (1919-2001), Emeritus Professor of Islamic Studies at Leiden University, author of, among other works, "Religion and Thought of Shah Wali Allah Dihlawi (1703-1762)", Brill, Leiden, 1986. A Hajj pilgrimage scroll with prayers and illustrated stations of the pilgrimage, naskh and diwani scripts, dated 1319 AH / 1901, India or Ottoman Empire, from the collection of Professor Johannes Baljon, University of Leiden.
