Groom presenting a horse to the prince Mughal India, circa 1800 Opaque pigments on paper with gold highlights 24 x 27.5 cm (9.4 x 10.8 in.) Provenance : Former collection of Professor Huart; Galerie Art musulman Joseph Soustiel, 146 boulevard du Montparnasse, Paris (label on back). In the courtyard of a palace, a prince consults, while a groom brings into the courtyard the horse richly equipped with a beautiful golden saddle; two guards stand in front of the palace gates; the royal guard - whose armour evokes a Sikh regiment - spreads out along the ramparts; behind the palace, the gardens and trees of the park complete the composition.
