IN THE STYLE OF JUN CERAMICS FROM THE SONG DYNASTY (960–1279) - CHINA, Glazed ceramic vase with a nuanced purple ‘jun’ or ‘moonlight’ background, footring decorated with criocephalic protomes, 20th century, seal under the base - H. approx. 30 cm, D. approx. 16.5 cm COMMENT: During the Song period (960–1279), to highlight the bluish ground, copper oxide powder was blown onto the surface using a bamboo tube; this produced violet spots during firing and gave a powdery appearance that gradually developed into an aubergine colour in some pieces.
