Description
François-Théodore LEGRAS (1839–1916), A rare multi-lobed, multi-layered glass bowl decorated with acid-etched, openwork blooming poppies, finished on the wheel and highlighted with gold on a frosted red and purple background, from the Indiana series, Art Nouveau style, signed on the reverse “Indiana” and “L/Cie” - Height approx. 12 cm x Diameter approx. 18 cm (in good overall condition)
COMMENTARY ON THE SO-CALLED “INDIANA” SERIES: “A prestigious series, not all pieces of which are signed. Against a frosted grenadine-red background with dark green glittering scrolls, the design—etched and finished with a poppy-bud wheel, depicting poppies in bloom or in capsule form—adorns vases, bowls and lamps. The gold ‘Indiana’ signature is crowned by the intertwined letters ‘L’ and ‘Cie’.” (source: Marie-Françoise & Jean-François MICHEL, Dominique & Jean VITRAT, François-Théodore Legras – French Artistic and Popular Glassware)
