Description
Pierre D'AVESN (known as Pierre Gire, 1901–1990), turquoise moulded-pressed glass ball vase with flared neck, featuring a continuous design of a sunfish against a stylised seabed background, circa 1920–1930, Art Deco period - Height approx. 28.5 cm x Diameter approx. 27 cm (in good overall condition)
COMMENT: Trained in René Lalique’s workshop, Pierre d’Avesn developed a distinctly Art Deco glass-making style (female figures, stylised fauna and flora, etc.), in the tradition of French moulded-pressed glass. His work, of genuine artistic quality, follows in the Lalique tradition whilst asserting a personal sensibility, particularly in the treatment of figures and animal motifs.
