COMMENTARY ON GRENOVILLE: In 1879, the perfumer Paul Grenouille changed his surname to “Grenoville” when he founded his perfume house at 64 Rue Rodier in Paris. Following her husband’s death in 1900, his widow, Marie-Marthe Richard, continued to run the business. In 1902, she moved Grenoville to 19 Rue de la Paix — the most prestigious address in Parisian haute parfumerie, alongside Chanel and Cartier. The house was awarded a silver medal at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in 1925 and opened branches in Brussels, New York, London and Milan. It was, therefore, a house of international standing.
