Description
Harald BORNEMANN (20th–21st centuries), BMW Z4, Pop Art silkscreen print, signed and numbered “28/28” in the bottom left-hand corner – approx. 100 x 70 cm (paper warped at the bottom)
COMMENT: As the successor to the Z3 and, further back, to the legendary 507 of the 1950s, the Z4 has, since 2002, carried on the tradition of the Bavarian roadster: a long bonnet, a compact rear end, rear-wheel drive and an inline six-cylinder engine for the finest versions. The first generation (E85/E86), designed during the Chris Bangle era with its taut, concave surfaces — the famous ‘flame surfacing’ — was the subject of much discussion before establishing itself as a signature design of its time.
