Description
Handwritten letter in Auguste RODIN’s own hand to Jean-Paul Laurens, on letterhead from 182, rue de l’Université and dated 21 September 1913: “My dear Master, I would have been happy to do you a small favour, but you have done it yourself. I think you have done a fine thing with your tribute, so affectionate, so… to your dear departed wife. With all my heart, your Aug. Rodin”. This handwritten letter by Auguste Rodin is a reply to a request from Jean-Paul Laurens for advice regarding the reclining statue of his late wife, Madelaine Willemsens, which he wished to create and which was to be placed in the Chapel of the Agony in the church of Saint-Germain-Fourquevaux in Occitanie; on this subject, he remarked: “I wanted a bronze sculpture.” Consultant: Alexis Baude
