Description
A medieval-style vermeil (gold-plated silver) chalice comprising a multi-lobed base decorated with foliage and a row of pearls, enhanced by three four-lobed medallions in polychrome enamel depicting the Virgin and St Joseph, as well as a cross of pearls on a blue background, all interspersed with three figures in relief. The shaft is adorned with a knot whose six ends are enamelled. The flared bowl is surmounted by a band bearing a Latin Eucharistic inscription and rests on a false bowl with an openwork filigree design, alternating between four-lobed medallions in polychrome enamel and angels in relief. Inscription beneath the base: ‘P. Rallet, ordained a priest on 5 July 1928’. Master silversmith’s hallmark: FAVIER and the Minerva hallmark. Gross weight: 899.4 g.
