Corneille (1922-2010) 'Women with Birds', a second original or electronic drawing with paintbox, approved for printing by the artist (1987) Second original or electronic drawing with paintbox. Produced by Lithoway for publication by De Telegraaf, Amsterdam, in 1987. Signed in pencil at the bottom of the work, with the message ' Goed voor drukken, als het kan nog ietje de kleuren opvoeren' (Approved for printing, if possible, enhance the colors a little). (70 x 79,5 cm) This work was produced using a paintbox. This is a device used to create digital drawings of an existing work for reproduction on slides or color photographs, a so-called second original. To promote the paintbox and the publication by De Telegraaf, Corneille created this digital artwork directly on the paintbox. This immediately made the work the first lithograph/print using the paintbox that was not made from an existing original. The lithograph/print was produced in an edition of 200 copies (all numbered and signed by Corneille) and sold by De Telegraaf for charity in Amsterdam. Nico Coster was a key intermediary in this, acting as Corneille's assistant and working for De Telegraaf. This work is approved for printing by the artist, and constitutes a one-of-a-kind and unique copy.
