INDOCHINA INSIGNS. Rare and authentic beret badge of Commando 24 VANDENBERGHE, featuring a tiger’s head and a naval anchor, with the motto “THA CHET HON LA CHIU NHUC” (Better to die than to live in dishonour), Diameter: 45 mm, locally moulded, with a lead-soldered pin. BE The insignia features the nickname of Roger Vandenberghe, ‘the Black Tiger’, the most highly decorated non-commissioned officer in Indochina and the French Army in the 20th century, with 18 commendations and 8 wounds. He was the leader of Commando 24, the most feared unit of the Viet Minh. He was assassinated in January 1952.
