HEADGEAR. 1915-model Adrian helmet for a Spahi officer, hand-painted in dark khaki, with a crescent-shaped front badge, and a Type 2 inner lining in brown and black leather, 2 adjustment tabs, braided officer’s chin strap, with a brass crescent bearing the inscription ‘Soldier of the Great War’ and engraved with ‘Lieutenant WEYERS – 1st Spahi Regiment’, Also included, from the same source, are a pair of Spahis squadron commander’s epaulettes in gold braid with madder-red lining (one missing from one epaulette), a sabre cord in black thread and a gold tassel. ABE Philippe-Henri-Louis Weyers (1877–1948) spent most of his career in Morocco; he was confirmed in the rank of active lieutenant in March 1915, at that time serving with the Moroccan Spahis Marching Regiment, with the 1st Spahis in 1914, then with the Senegalese Spahis Squadron in Morocco in 1915; he was promoted to captain in 1924 in the remount unit.
