Model 31 Quartermaster-General’s kepi in fine madder-red cloth, with a blue velvet band embroidered with a row of intertwined acanthus leaves, gold braid and cords, and a leather visor covered in celluloid (damaged), monogrammed ‘G.L’ in gold letters, ivory satin lining with a label from the tailor Echolet – ECLEC in Marseille, ivory leather headband. ABE GL may refer to Georges LEY (1892–1970), who was appointed to this rank in 1942, which corresponds to the date of manufacture of this kepi.
