Description
A very rare Model 1777/AN 9 infantry musket from the Culembourg Manufactory. The lock plate is clearly marked ‘Culemborg Loninkl Gev. Fabr.’ and stamped with an L. The breech block is marked M 1777, and some fittings are stamped with a crowned H. All these markings and stamps are clearly old and in the same style as those found on other published weapons from this manufacturer. The muzzle has been repaired with a brass plug; the metal is in fine condition with good thickness at the muzzle end. Walnut stock with a barely legible butt plate; a crack in the stock; wormholes stabilised and filled. Rear checkering. Provenance: Le Hussard (a certificate will be provided to the purchaser). Category D. (On 5 June 1806, Napoleon appointed his brother Louis Napoleon Bonaparte as King of Holland. The Kulenburg factory was requisitioned to produce weapons for the French army. The imperial administration only began operating from January 1811. The factory, run by the contractor Devillers (from Liège), experienced financial difficulties and was closed by order of Napoleon in late 1812, to concentrate production in Liège. Fewer than 7,000 rifles were produced).
