Description
Chinese Campaign, the Xi’an Incident of 1936. A fine commemorative embroidery on silk commemorating the French Navy’s intervention. Titled ‘1932–1936: Souvenir of my Chinese Campaign’, signed at the bottom ‘Chamerat Cyrille’. Depicted, from top to bottom, are the French rooster towering over the Chinese dragon, a bugler, a buoy flanked by French flags, and the ship on which our artist was to serve, surrounded by two anchors. Framing the whole scene are the flags of all the nations that took part in this event (France, Japan, England, the United States, etc.). Dimensions: 70.5 x 47.5 cm (visible area). Good condition.
