An imposing sabre of the Heavy Cavalry. The blade is of the 1822 type: curved with a flat back, a hollow edge and a fuller, with no markings. The blade heel bears French-style inspection hallmarks (an ‘M’ in a circle and a starred ‘S’ in a diamond). A sturdy, German-style brass hilt. One main tang and four secondary tangs, each ending in small floral motifs and decorated with a hunting horn. A robust pommel in the shape of a lion’s head. A sheepskin scabbard with simple filigree.
