The Battle of Sadowa, or Battle of Königgrätz, was a clash during the Austro-Prussian War, which took place on a plateau between the Elbe and the Bistritz rivers, not far from the Czech town of Hradec Králové (Königgrätz in German), on 3 July 1866. This decisive battle was a major victory for the Prussian General Helmuth von Moltke. It marked the end of the power struggle between Prussia and Austria within the German-speaking world. 2. The Cross of Alsen is a state decoration established on 7 December 1864 by King William I of Prussia to commemorate the conquest of the island of Alsen by Prussian troops during the War of the Duchies.]
