Imperial Russia, shako badge of the Marine Troops, 43rd Regiment, 1837 or 1846 model, in openwork copper-plated brass. A crowned double-headed eagle bearing, within its breast, a shield depicting St George slaying the dragon, with two crossed anchors surmounting a shield bearing the number ‘43’. Reigns of Nicholas I and Alexander II (1840–1860), 17 x 18.5 cm (upper cross re-soldered). A specimen is held at the Bristol Museum, indicating that it was taken from a Russian soldier in 1854.
