1872-model Medical Corps officer’s sword, with a fine straight blade measuring 860 mm, stamped ‘FBD’ (François Backes and Delacour, Parisian swordsmith) at the pommel, gilded brass hilt with a single arm, pommel featuring the caduceus within a crown, filigree tang and a movable counter-pommel engraved with the officer’s initials, scabbard with a single nickel-plated steel strap and lyre-shaped pommel, minimal wear otherwise in very good to excellent condition, preserved in its protective suede-like case, rare in this condition, total length 1055 mm, France, Third Republic period.
