A pair of Spanish flintlock pistols, an officer’s model with an overall appearance reminiscent of the French King’s Bodyguard, type 1814, with a flat-bodied flintlock lock measuring 120 mm, engraved and signed ESTEVA, an engraved swan-neck hammer, external trigger mechanism similar to the Miquelet lock, faceted pan with spark guard, faceted then rounded barrel, 225 mm long, 18 mm calibre, with the gunner’s mark on the breech, stepped muzzle, half-Charolais brass trigger guard tapering to an urn shape at the front, ovalised pommel, attractive light-coloured wooden stock, all fittings in brass, iron ramrod with a nail-head tip; on each pistol, the trigger guard has been repaired/re-fitted; weapons restored to a high standard by a master gunsmith, barrel length 375 mm, Spain, first half of the 19th century, category D § e).
