A flintlock rifle of the type used by Monsieur’s bodyguards, Model 1816.
Fluted barrel with traces of burnishing.
Flat-bodied drum lock marked ‘Manuf ROYALE de Versailles’ and a round-bodied hammer. Unhallmarked brass fittings. Thumb rest bearing Monsieur’s coat of arms, marked ‘GARDES DU CORPS DE MONSIEUR’ (showing wear). Walnut stock. Iron ramrod with a nail-head tip.
Barrel length: 102.5 cm – 141.5 cm.
With sheathed bayonet (47.5 cm).
This model exhibits some variations from the regulation model, notably the absence of the simplified fleur-de-lis on the trigger guard.
