Presumed to be a Model 1846 T percussion carbine for the navy or marines, with its bayonet. Round barrel with fluted breech, stamped and dated ‘1849’, with a sight set at 1,100 m. Breech block stamped ‘Mle 1846 T’. Rear lock plate engraved ‘Mre Nle de St Etienne’. Uniformly stamped iron fittings. Walnut stock with a peg, bearing one of the barrel’s serial numbers, ‘4926’. Iron ramrod with a thick head. Barrel length: 87 cm. Overall length: 126 cm. With its Model 1842 bayonet sabre (round push-button hilt). Blade marked ‘Manufre Nle de Châtellerault June 1849’. Crossguard and scabbard stamped with an anchor. Handle stamped with the serial number ‘610’, which also appears on the barrel. Length: 69 cm. A.B.E.
