Description
Two-shot flintlock hunting rifle by Antoine Dumarest. Round, faceted barrels, engraved with flowers and thunderbolts. Mouldings circled with brass. Firing plates signed ‘Antoine Dumarest à St Etienne’ and round-bodied hammers, engraved. Openwork and chiselled iron fittings. Hinged butt plate for storing the bayonet (hinge damaged, requires repair). Marbled walnut stock, carved with a stylised duck’s beak, with a cheek piece. Wooden butt with a brass ferrule. Length: 137 cm. A.B.E. Circa 1760–1780. With a hunting bayonet with a bronzed scabbard and a blade marked ‘DELRIEUX A MASSIAC’ (circa 1830). (Length: 16 cm).
