Description
Model 1838 percussion rampart rifle.
Strong round-bore barrel with fluted recesses, six internal rifling grooves, hallmarked and dated ‘1840’, with a rear sight set at 600 m. Pontcharra-style lock marked ‘Mre Rle de Châtellerault’. Fittings, butt plate with hook, trigger guard with a tail at the rear, all made of uniformly hallmarked iron. Loading rod with a thick head. Walnut stock with ‘MR’ from 1840 (minor wear).
Bronzed finish on the iron parts.
Barrel length: 85.5 cm.
Overall length: 127 cm.
With matching bayonet (1838 model) with a rounded back tapering to the point, spring-loaded scabbard, stamped on the bend (traces of stamping on the blade). Length: 58.5 cm.
