A percussion rifle known as the ‘d’Orléans’, model 1842. Round-bore barrel with fluted muzzle and rear sight bearing the date ‘1844’. The breech block is stamped ‘Mle 1842’. Rear lock plate marked ‘Mre Rle de St Etienne’ and a round-bodied hammer. Iron fittings uniformly stamped. Walnut stock with hallmark. Iron ramrod with a thick head. Barrel length: 86 cm. Overall length: 128 cm. A.B.E. With a Model 1842 bayonet sabre (round push-button) marked ‘Manufre Imple de Châtellerault Mai 1854’ (Lg: 69 cm).
