A remarkable 1842-model gendarmerie percussion musket, converted to flintlock (Fraikin patent). Bronzed round barrel with fluted breech, stamped ‘M.FRAIKIN BREVETE’. Standard-issue lock marked ‘Mre Rle de Châtellerault’, with a flint-firing hammer. Bronze pan and pan support. Iron firing mechanism and spring (small crack in the stock). Stamped brass fittings; butt plate with remnants of the marking ‘4 T’ or ‘4 F’. Bronzed iron ramrod with a nail-head tip. Barrel length: 75.5 cm. Overall length: 114.5 cm. A.B.E. With scabbard bayonet (53 cm). A remarkable period conversion of a percussion weapon to flintlock.
