Description
‘Colonial’ flintlock musket, 1779 model. Round barrel with flat sides at the muzzle, marked ‘85’ and hallmarked. Lock engraved ‘Mre Rle de Tulle’ and round-bodied hammer. Brass fittings uniformly hallmarked ‘C’ beneath a crown, including the muzzle cap, which is screwed into place in line with the ramrod bore. Iron grenadier plate with a different hallmark. Iron flaps. Varnished walnut stock (with a slight joint from the cap onwards) Iron ramrod with a flared head. Barrel length: 113 cm. Overall length: 152.5 cm. A.B.E. Circa 1783–1786, judging by the screw-mounted muzzle cap. With a bayonet having a low ferrule (43.5 cm).
