Model 1816 flintlock artillery musket. Round barrel with fluted breech, dated ‘1820’. Breechblock marked M1816 (chipped). Trigger guard engraved ‘St Etienne Mfre Royale’ and round-bodied hammer. Brass fittings uniformly hallmarked ‘H’ beneath a star (Hardy). Walnut stock with a fleur-de-lis hallmark from 1820. Flared iron ramrod. Barrel length: 91 cm. Overall length: 131.5 cm. A.B.E. (Oxidised metal on the barrel and trigger guard; trace of a missing thumb piece). With a scabbard bayonet (Lg: 47 cm). The presence of a thumb piece may also suggest that it was used as an officer’s rifle.
